This
was a really exciting trip for both of us as neither of us had
experienced a helicopter ride before. Take off was very smooth, even
more so for Linda as she was picked to occupy the best seat in the
helicopter - next to the pilot which gave her the best view of all for
the whole trip.
The
2 pictures show the view that I got on the way to the canyon, as you can
see the rim itself is very flat for as far as the eye can see. My
seating position was next best I suppose as I had a window next to me
which occupied most of my side of the helicopter. You will see a slight
reflection from my wrist watch in some of the later shots which I didn't
realise was happening until it was too late!
This
one was difficult to take but effective!
As
we turned to fly out of the canyon I was completely overcome by the
sheer size of this natural wonder - it is 1 mile deep, ten miles across
and runs for some 270 miles!
These
two pictures are looking straight down and clearly show the Colerado
river rushing through the canyon base
This
sequence of 6 pictures shows us flying all the way across the canyon to
the far side and then turning for the return trip
